Whenever possible Abivia strongly believes in leveraging open source solutions to reduce the overall cost of development. Even the most restrictive open source licenses allow you to keep your enhancements proprietary as long as you don't distribute the code to customers.
We prefer to develop solutions on open and portable platforms, in languages such as PHP and Java, but are willing to undertake projects in any area where we feel we can add value.
Development Methodology
Abivia uses one of several development models, depending on the size and nature of the project:
- For very small projects we will usualy work off an informal description and can frequently quote a fixed price.
- For medium sized projects, we will establish informal systems requirements and a statement of work. These projects are usually quoted on a time and materials basis. A fixed price can be established after the development of a formal requirements specification.
- Larger projects require a formal requirements specification. If the specification is sufficiently detailed and all interfaces are well defined and stable, we will quote a fixed price and put a formal change management system in place.
- Open ended projects, projects with significant uncertainty, a lack of specifications, or with complex interfaces to other systems are quoted on a time and materials basis.
